Tennis legend Li Na is backing WTA star Serena Williams to make a return to the game after recovering from the birth of her first child. The American is seeking a quick return to the game in January and there are fears that the recovery time is too short.

The 36-year old won the Australian Open in January 2017 despite being pregnant. She took the year off but she is planning a quickfire return for the same event in 2018. She gave birth to her daughter: Alexis Olympian Ohanian Jr. on September 1, meaning she would take less than five months to make a return to the physically demanding sport.

Li was pregnant back in 2014, two months after her retirement. The Chinese star saidif it were her, she would not have been able to leave the young child for the courts. She added that for her since retiring from the sport professionally and becoming a mother, she has probably played ten times. Li said for Serena, her situation and capability are different.

“Serene can fix everything. But if I think about myself, I couldn’t do that. With a baby so young, I couldn’t leave them. “
Li said she had left the fighting and competitive part of her in the court since exiting. She says she just follows happenings now.

Aside Li, stars like Mary Joe Fernandez and Kim Clijsters have spoken in support of Serena being able to handle the requirements that come with such a drastic move. Both mothers took time off due to pregnancy and to wean their children. They both agreed that Serena was the only one that could possibly pull it off
