If Lleyton Hewitt is to be believed, Roger Federer’s world record of winning seventeen Slam singles title would not get broken in near future.
Hewitt reckons there is no one in the circuit who is capable of toppling Federer, not even Nadal.
Nadal is in touching distance of Federer’s record. He is just three Slams away to be able to level with him and four to get past him.
But, according to Hewitt, Nadal is not going to have his way easy in the seasons to come by. His body is not the same. There have been a lot of bruises and blows which he has taken over the years. Also, he is not someone whom you can call the versatile player or the complete player. He does not look as comfortable at other courts as he looks at Clay ones.
Hewitt was in Singapore last week to attend a function organized by one of his sponsors.
Talking about Nadal and how he sees the Spaniard’s career shaping up from here onwards, Hewitt said, “If it’s clay, he is class above the rest. No doubt. He is sort of unbeatable. But, the moment it shifts to hard or grassy surfaces, some of the other guys come into play as well. The likes of Novak and Andy, they are brilliant too.”
“Also, with Rafa, you are never quite sure about fitness. That’s one thing which he has been let down by time and time again in the past. So, breaking Roger’s record is a bit of a challenge for him even at this stage. Age is by his side yes, but, still it’s hard.”
Nadal is presently a position down in the World rankings as compared to Federer. He is at the third position, while, the Swiss maestro is no. 2.
